How to Find the Right Cabinet Hardware

How to Find the Right Cabinet Hardware

Remodeling your kitchen can be confusing and stressful. One choice that you might overlook in all of the stress, however, is what cabinet hardware you want.

Remodeling your kitchen can be confusing and stressful. For one thing, you have all of these different choices to make: What do I want the cabinets to look like? Should I redo the countertops? Will I need a new sink? One choice that you might overlook in all of the stress, however, is what cabinet hardware you want.

Choosing Knobs or Pulls

Kitchen cabinets can either have knobs or pulls. The style of cabinet hardware you choose partly depends on the function of the cabinet.

A cabinet close to the floor of your kitchen might hold pots, pans, and heavy lids – you would use a knob for this. Likewise, for a taller cabinet that only holds cups, you’d likely use a knob as well. Pulls are much easier to use on a drawer since the horizontal sliding action makes more sense for its purpose. When you’re deciding whether to use knobs or pulls on your cabinets, don’t forget that the size of the cabinet makes a difference too. If the size of the knob or pull isn’t proportional to the door, then it won’t work as easily. This, in turn, will cause you endless frustration.

Finding the Right Finish

The next step is to select the right finish for your cabinet hardware. Two of the most popular choices are brushed nickel and chrome. Brass has become a trendy choice as well. One of the trickiest parts of any kitchen remodeling project is making everything match. The good news is you don’t have to force it. Although the sink faucet and the lighting alcoves should complement and blend in with the type of finish you choose, they don’t all need to be identical.

Choosing the Hardware

Now it’s time to choose the actual hardware. Once you settled on your choices for cabinet handles and the finishing trim, the last step is to pick the style of hardware you want. Do you want bar pulls or bin drawers? If neither of those appeals to you, you can always choose decorative hardware that is functional and elegant, to boot.

As soon as you have finished remodeling the kitchen, it could be time to give the bathroom some thought, as well.
