A Guide to Cabinet Hardware Placement

Consider the different cabinet hardware placement options for your home.

Cabinet hardware placement can play a big role in the look and function of your kitchen. There are a few different styles and types of hardware to choose from, so how can you decide what will look and feel best in your kitchen? Here are a few different factors you can consider for the finishing touches of your kitchen remodel.

What Types of Cabinet Hardware Do You Want?

There are two basic types of cabinet hardware, knobs and pulls. Knobs are typically small and give a subtle appearance to your cabinets. These are great if you have beautiful statement pieces that you’d prefer not to draw attention away from. Pulls are easy to use and offer a streamlined, unique look.
But, you don’t have to choose one or the other; you can change your cabinet hardware placement wherever it’s appropriate. Some homeowners like to do knobs on cabinets and pulls on drawers, or knobs on the upper cabinetry and pulls on lower cabinetry.

What Size Cabinet Hardware Works For Your Space?

Knobs and pulls come in various sizes, and there is no wrong choice! It all depends on the aesthetic you want. Uniform size pulls and knobs can give your kitchen a cohesive and classic look. If you’re looking for a modern, sleek look, you can opt for different lengths of pulls to complement differing cabinet and drawer sizes. You could even do full-length cabinet pulls for a gorgeous, impressionable look!

Where Should You Install the Hardware?

So, how do you finally decide on cabinet hardware placement? Now that you’ve decided on which kind and size, you can think of where they will look and feel best. Think of what will be most functional for how you’ll use your new kitchen. For top cabinets, knobs and pulls are best placed in the lower corner opposite the hinge; bottom cabinets are easiest to use when the hardware is closer to the top corner opposite the hinge. For drawers, you can install pulls or knobs in the center of the drawer or towards the top edge, depending on what works best for you.
