How to Remodel a Small Bathroom

How to Remodel a Small Bathroom

A small bathroom doesn’t need to be a challenge when it comes to remodeling.

A small bathroom doesn’t need to be a challenge when it comes to remodeling. You might not even need to knock down walls or begin a dramatic renovation project that could quickly escalate in costs. Here are some tips for how to pull off the remodeling project quickly and efficiently

Make It Lighter

First things first, try infusing your small bathroom with light. Avoid using dark colors when lighter colors will do. Play around with soft grey walls, or icy blue, seafoam green, warm white, and butter yellow are all good choices as well.  After you’ve done that, it’s time to add some color

Add Some Color

Lighter walls and trim don’t have to drain all the color and personality from the room. This color can come from the accessories inside the room. Towels and soap dispensers make more of a difference than you might think. Textures and colors come alive through the addition of patterned rugs. Swapping out the textures and colors makes it far easier to update the look of your bathroom when you are in the mood for something of a change

Increase the Height

There are ways to create the illusion of size through reflectivity, as we will see below. However, you can also increase the height of the bathroom. Raising the ceiling height sounds difficult, but there are ways to do this without physically altering the walls of the room. Take the time to replace large crown molding with narrow molding that has been painted to look like the ceiling of the room. Heavy and dark crown molding can overwhelm the room. Then take some time to think about the light fixtures. Recessed lighting provides a cleaner, sleeker look. Also, try using wall sconces since they can make the ceiling look higher than it really is.

Factor in Reflectivity

More light will help make your small bathroom look larger. If you can add a mirror into the bathroom, then do it. Find the largest mirror that you can. This will help add to the illusion that the small bathroom is much larger than it is. High gloss fixtures also make a difference, too. Fixtures on tubs, sinks, and showers add more reflectivity, as do shiny countertops and tile backsplashes.
